Thank you for stopping by and taking a look around!  I’m glad you’re here to learn more about me and about Zeont Starfighters.

 

My name is Jimmie.  Most folks call me Jimmie or Jim.  My wife calls me “Honey,” and our two awesome kids call me “Daddy.”  “My Dude” pops up now and then too.  I was born in June and I’m a Gemini.  I tend to adapt, ask a lot of questions, and try to be kind.  I can also be nosy when my curiosity kicks in, anxious when something big is coming, and I do not enjoy pressure, especially with a microphone in front of me.

I work in IT.  I earned my bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems from Fort Valley State University, an HBCU, where I pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the first intercollegiate historically African American fraternity.  Later I completed a master’s in Information Systems Management at Keller Graduate School of Management with an emphasis in Database Security.  Along the way I learned to build apps for Windows, iOS, and Android, dig into large datasets to find patterns, lead projects across local and state government and quasi-corporate spaces, and even build gaming PCs from parts.  I’m grateful to God for every step of that journey and, strangely enough, to Zeont Starfighters.

When I was eight or nine, I spent hours typing early versions of my stories on my parents’ old Packard Bell.  I saved everything to a floppy disk.  One day I left the disk in the drive, powered the computer on, and in the chaos of that boot-up era I wiped the disk.  Every page was gone.  “Livid” doesn’t even cover it.

​

From that day on I promised myself I would understand computers so I wouldn’t feel that helpless again.  I kept writing, learned better ways to save, and as the stories grew more detailed I needed more than Word.  I moved everything into Access, then outgrew it.  By the time I was at FVSU, I had more than fifty tables with hundreds of records in each, all text tied to settings, characters, and items.  I migrated to SQL Server and built a custom application in Visual Basic to keep the world organized.  I even explored 3D modeling and animation to bring scenes to life.  Animation is still a work in progress, but seeing Kenneth, Stephanie, and Jayson on a screen still makes me grin.

 

Zeont Starfighters has been with me since childhood.  It’s a mix of creativity, lived experience, feelings, and a very analytical brain.  If you read Story I and Story II, see if you can spot where that shows up.  Send me a note on the Home page with your guess.
